Insight is out in paperback and there really was a blue moon

by dianagreenwood

See? Unusual things happen. A real Blue Moon. A rover on Mars. A book in paperback. Expect the unexpected.

It has been a wild summer here what with two trips to L.A., one to Seattle, and a vacation/signing/work/wedding trip to Canada.

Insight is now out in paperback and that cool fact was celebrated at St. Vital Centre Chapters in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where the nicest people live. I know, it’s my home town. It was great to be back. The house I grew up in looks very much the same as it did when I attended Bannatyne Elementary School, the lilac bush my mother planted at the corner of the yard is huge, and the garage my father built is still standing. My cousins are silly as always, and we added a lovely bride to the family. Life is good.

I am getting ready to revamp this blog and update my website (yes, I do know it is incredibly boring).  Watch for a new series of interviews on young authors, coming soon. Also watch for photos of cats, because those seem to draw crowds on Facebook, and hey, I actually like crowds.

For now, here is the new cover.

Dream, teach, love, do. Once in a blue moon, every little thing aligns.

Five or six of you…

by dianagreenwood

…know that I post very rarely. Why? As a single mom juggling two jobs with  a daughter in college (for which the interest rates on the (single) parent loans are incredibly ridiculous), and as a daughter of a parent with Alzheimer’s,  as well as the caretaker for a fat cat that only rises from her cushion with the clink, clink of dry food as it is poured into her ceramic bowl, I just cannot make it over here often.

But the most irritating reason is that WordPress freezes my computer each and every time I try to post and my patience wears thin. Rather quickly. Yes this is a five-year-old laptop. So what.  WordPress should still work on it , right?

However, I will be signing INSIGHT at the fabulous bookstore, Chapters, in St. Vital Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, my home town, on Friday, July 20th from 2-4 p.m.  If you are in the neighborhood, stop by to say hi.

If WordPress decides to chill anytime soon and allow uploads that don’t take five thousand  hours, I will post the pic of the fantastic INSIGHT softcover designed by Jeff Gifford. The softcover will be available in stores on August 7th.

See me here:

And stay tuned for a major fall event with several other authors, here in NorCal, where the sun shines when it feels like it, the kids are all amazing, writers swarm the streets, and books will never go away, no matter what you may be led to believe.

The Great Central Valley Hot August Book Tour

by dianagreenwood

This week I am traveling on a publicity tour for Insight that we’re calling The Great Central Valley Hot August Book Tour. I do not think it has dropped below 95 the entire week and as I type it is 103. The air conditioner in the car is rebelling. My hair is sticking up and my capris are wilted. Last night’s wishful dreaming included snow, parkas, and mittens.

However, the highway is not the only thing that sizzles in central California.  The independent  booksellers I have met on this trip are amazing, full of ideas and programs that make their stores fun and friendly for locals. Take Mike Russo at Russo’s Books in Bakersfield, for example. Mike runs a Youth Advisory Council where teen representatives from 20 area schools have their own webpage through the Russo’s website. The teens review books, recommend titles to their school librarians, and meet in the store to learn the book business, arrange displays, discuss books and plan events.

I presented and signed there yesterday all because one of those teens, my new young friend, Nicole, asked me to, and Mike Russo listens to kids. What fun! Pictures to come. Here’s a link to Russo’s:

And then there was Hary. Perhaps my new  favorite person, Hary Daud at Majesty Book and Bible in Fresno is title-savvy, reads every book before he puts it on a shelf, knows every inch of his store including the colors of the rhinestone pocketbook angels, and he’s warm and friendly to boot.  If you’re in Fresno, go make a new friend at 7020 N. Cedar.

Today I met Warren Mayhew at Hope Christian Stores, 7850 White Lane in Bakersfield. Instant friendship. What a pleasure this store and bookseller were! Stay tuned because I will be joining Warren and his wife, Linda, at an October Christian Music festival in Calistoga, CA. I’ll be signing books in their booth and also helping Warren lug boxes. It’s the least I can do for a new friend. Tuesday, August 30, I will pop in at Hope Christian in Merced to sign stock of Insight.

I had a great chat with Jeff at Barnes & Noble in Dublin and will return soon for a “meet and greet” and signing and another at the Barnes & Noble in Fairfield, CA. Dates TBD, but sometime early fall. I also enjoyed meeting the great sales staff at Lighthouse Christian Supply in Dublin and plans are in the works for a fall event there.

The final stop today was at Berean in Bakersfield to sign stock and there I met Assistant Manager, Jeff, also a writer and a great guy!

So far, it has been a busy week. Back on the Hot August highway tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Slow as a Blue Moon

by dianagreenwood

I have been having major problems with WordPress lately so time in between postings is worse than usual. Sorry about that.

Getting ready for an event at Russo's Books in Bakersfield, CA on August 27.

Here are a couple links to recent interviews.

Many thanks to Julie at Reel Swell Productions for the support and a terrific interview:

Insight Launch Party

by dianagreenwood

A few pics from the release party for Insight at Copperfield’s Books in Napa, CA.

This was such a great event! Many thanks to all who came out to support Insight!

A fun crowd listening intently to my talk about enemies and allies in a

book’s journey. Some of my beta readers are in the crowd.  ❤

Someone always asks which books inspire me so I prepared a 20 foot list.

Just another day in Barnes and Noble

by dianagreenwood

Not really. Not at all a typical day. I have to say that it is quite thrilling to see your debut novel on the shelves.

Thank you to  Seattle Barnes and Noble’s amazing bookseller, Ruby. It’s possible that nobody knows middle grade and YA like Ruby does. If you visit the Seattle store, say hi, and check out Ruby’s blog:

And the reviews are rolling in…

by dianagreenwood

Sometimes I feel silly posting on this blog. It’s as if I’m talking to myself. Hi, Diana, what’s new? Nothing much, couple cool reviews came in. Daughter sent a CD for Mother’s Day. Stuff like that. How’s the fat lump of a cat? Still lumpy. What are you having for dinner? Dunno yet, still early. I’m off to the post office to mail a signed copy to the winner from the Mixed-Up Files contest. Have fun with that.

*Waves to self.

In any case, some amazing people have read Insight and posted their thoughts on the story so I thought I’d share some of the links here. Because, well, I like them. And I am so appreciative. Self and I thank them for their kind words.

Dad of Diva’s Reviews, lovely comments and a great blog:

Orange Orb, a really cool blogger.

And a radio interview here:

That’s it from the blue moon blog. See ya when the clouds clear.
